From the Clerk of Assembly, 2021 General Assembly

To all Voting Members of the General Assembly

Dear Colleagues,

I write with reference to next week’s meeting of the General Assembly.

I wanted to let you know that a pdf copy of the 2021 General Assembly Reports (which can be downloaded) is now available on the PCI Website (www.presbyterianireland.org). Simply follow the large blue General Assembly link on the homepage which will take you to a page of Assembly resources, where an electronic copy of the Reports can be found. Also on that page is a link to an electronic copy of the Supplementary Reports, containing the business which was licensed by the General Assembly Business Committee at its meeting on Wednesday of this week. Also on that page are with other useful overviews and previews relating to this year’s Assembly..

Could I ask Ministers in charges to pass on this information to your Representative Elder(s) so that they can be aware particularly of the additional business that is included in this year’s Supplementary Reports Booklet. Hard copies of this booklet will be available any registration on Monday, but it might be useful for members of Assembly to be aware of this extra business and when it will be debated. You might also like to point your congregation not only to the Livestream Link (which will be on the Website from Monday) but also to the electronic copy of the Reports and Supplementary Reports etc. These could make the viewing even more exciting!

Kind regards,

Trevor

PS Please be much in prayer for every aspect of this year’s Assembly and encourage your people to do likewise.

Rev Trevor D Gribben
Clerk of the General Assembly and General Secretary
Presbyterian Church in Ireland

Dear Church member:
As we return at this autumn time to some planning for the next year in Church, we hope you are taking care.  It has been a difficult time for everyone, but we pray that Covid infection rates will slowly be reduced, and life return to what we remember in the past.

Our Annual High Street Presbyterian Church Annual Report 2020 is available to view or download.

SUPPORTING THE CHURCH FINANCIALLY DURING THE PANDEMIC
Some members have asked how they can continue to support the church financially during the pandemic as most of our running costs continue as before. If your circumstances permit, financial contributions will be gratefully received.

The preferred option would be for you to set up a STANDING ORDER for regular payments. This is easily done by On-line Banking or a paper form. For guidance and the information you will require, please contact Ian Titterington by e-mail at tttrngti@aol.com or by phone at (07767) 705 131.

Alternatively you can post a CHEQUE to the church. It should be made out to 'High St Presbyterian Church', with your name in Capitals and FWO Number (from your weekly envelopes) printed on the back. The full address is High Street Presbyterian Church, 22 Steeple Road, Antrim, BT41 1DN. Cheques will be lodged into our Number 1 Account - Free Will Offering.

Regrettably the Church cannot process normal weekly or monthly envelopes until we reopen. These should be retained until we are all together again, which we pray will not be too long.

If you already have a Standing Order mandate set up and are finding the current situation financially challenging, we encourage you to cancel your mandate as soon as possible.

Church Leaders encourage the community and call Ireland to pray

In a joint statement today (27 March), following a video conference, the leaders of the Church of Ireland, Methodist Church in Ireland, Roman Catholic Church, Presbyterian Church in Ireland and the Irish Council of Churches, have paid tribute to everyone in the health and social care services and those in the frontline, for their courage in the battle against the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

The leaders of Ireland’s main Churches, together with other denominations and Christian organisations, also issued a call to pray, which will take place on Palm Sunday, 5 April from 3pm-4pm.

Communication from the Kirk Session, High Street Presbyterian Church, 16 March 2020

At our Kirk Session meeting which was held tonight (16th March), it was unanimously decided that in the light of the Coronavirus Pandemic that all organisations and Church Sunday Services will be suspended with immediate effect. We hope and pray that this will be for as short a time as possible. Could you please inform other members of this decision who may not have access to social media. As a Kirk Session we did not make this decision lightly, but our absolute concern is for the welfare of those who attend our organisations and Services.

Kirk Session are also concerned for those who may have to self isolate in the coming days and we want to assist if we can. If you are worried, concerned, want to have a chat with our Minister Colin, or if you need any medication picked up or some shopping, please ring Colin on 9446 8339 or 07740 868681 and a small team of us will do all we can to help. In this time it is good to reflect upon the Word of God in Psalm 27: 5:

For in the day of trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent and set me high upon a rock.
